하성호고려대학교 사학과를 졸업하였고, 미국 뉴욕 주립대학(SUNY Buffalo)에서 미국사 전공으로 박사학위를 받았다. 현재 미국 알래스카 주립대학교(University of Alaska Anchorage) 역사학과 정년 보장 부교수로 재직 중이다. 저서로는 The Rise and Fall of the American System: Nationalism and the Development of the American Economy, 1790-1837 (London, Pickering & Chatto, 2009)가 있고, 논문으로는 「The Jeffersonian Land Policies, 1800-1828」, 「The Radical Political Culture of the American System, 1801-1829: The Case of Internal Improvements」, 「존 퀸시 애담스와 크리크 인디언 추방, 1825-1827」 등이 있다. 풀브라이트(Fulbright) 장학금, 우암학술상 등을 수상하였다. 대표작
